Hunting Pouch Workshop with Maryellen Pratt  May 22-23, 2021

2 day workshop. $375 class fee includes meals and lodging; additional $20 materials fee to be paid to your instructor.

(Please note that this workshop is separate from the September "Leatherwork and More" class )

In this two day  introductory class, leatherworker  Maryellen Pratt will guide you through the making of your own traditionally styled, hand stitched leather hunting pouch.  Typically carried as hunting / shooting pouches along with muzzleloading guns, bags of this type are also easily adapted  for a variety of other purposes.  Both "rustic" and more refined designs will be explored.

Techniques including material selection, design, layout, finishing and a variety of stitching styles will all be covered. For the materials fee Maryellen will supply the required leather,  thread, needles, dye and buckles.  She can also let you borrow all the tools you'll  need to work on your projects in class -  however If you have your own leatherworking tools, feel free to bring them along.

About the instructor - Maryellen Pratt is an established leatherworker whose work is appreciated and sought after by traditional hunters, shooters and collectors alike. While her primary focus has been the creating of traditionally styled huntung pouches, she also enjoys making haversacks, knapsacks, accoutrement bags, knife sheaths and woven straps.

Always willing to share her knowledge, Maryellen has taught multiple leatherworking classes at Canter's Cave in Jackson Ohio and at the Log Cabin Shop in Lodi, Ohio and was a guest instructor at a meeting of the Washington Historical Gunmakers' Guild. Her work has been shown frequently on the Contemporary Makers' Blog, and her hand stitched pouches have appeared on the covers of Muzzle Blasts and American Tradition magazines.
